Samsungs not FDB throughout?!

Post by sgrossklass » Fri Dec 24, 2004 5:22 am

Check out the specs on the various models, and you'll see that, to give an example, the SP0802N is spec'd with 4.8 W idle while the SP0812N is rated at 7.0 W, as the P80s have been from the start. Same goes for SP1203N/SP1213N and SP1604N/SP1614N. The marketing text is also different between the two, and the noise spec is up from 2.7/2.8 bels to 2.9/3.0 bels. Such a radically lower idle power consumption along with increased noise can virtually only mean BB motors. Apparently BB motors are no longer limited to ultra low cost models now. The V80 series seems unaffected.

I just bought a 120G SpinPoint, SP1213C. Its got the Nidec(yay!) FDB motor, and Samsung site says power consumtion to be 7.7W at idle. 2.7/2.8bel. It seems that the drives with 2Mb cache has 4.8W power consumption at idle and they dont have SilentSeek either.
