Seagate Sata Problems?

Post by Project » Sun Jan 30, 2005 6:34 pm

i got a 200gb serial ata seagate hd, and whenever i try to defrag it, it will freeze up in windows. I notice that most of my hds have "file system" errors, so i doubt that its that problem, other than that, the os and everything is fine. Its just when i want to defrag. Also when i try to chkdsk, it would hang up, is this a driver issue or a humongous size hd issue?

Do you have at least service pack 1 installed? All drives more than 137GB need a new ATAPI driver for 48bit LBA support in Windows XP. This driver comes with SP1 and SP2. See there.

For chkdsk try cleaning the temp directories.

I have had this happen once before on my 120G which was severely fragged. Try diskeeper 8.0 for the dfrag.
