are they any different? I believe the SATA ones have a 7V line in addition to the 5V and 12V. Does that mean that the 4 pin molex to sata converters do the 7V trick?

no performance difference.
But, a drive which has both power slots on it is not a true SATA drive, but an ATA drive with an adapter stuck on it. True SATA drives do not have the molex connectors.

And IIRC the raptor isnt a native sata drive
Wich explains the molex connector, i have a raptor too. very nice drive imo
A drive isnt any slower because its not native sata.

You are right. I had a pair of Seagate Barracuda's and they were the first
native SATA drives. I now have a Seagate PATA and a pair of the 74 Raptors. I use the SATA connectors as they are a tad less bulky. They also fit right next to the SATA connector nicely.
