Silencing the cooler on my RAID card...

Post by BoB-O » Mon Sep 05, 2005 6:19 pm

Hey all,

I have an Areca ARC-1210 PCIe RAID card. It's fast as hell, but as it uses the Intel IOP332/IOP333 chip, it tends to run hot. The little HSF on it was loud as hell, so I replaced it with a Zalman passive chipset heatsink. The heatsink is HOT to the touch, so I put a Nexus fan near it, but I'm not liking that solution long-term. Anybody have any ideas? I'm thinking of the Swiftech MCX159-A, but wonder if it's too heavy (250g) to hang upside-down off a PCI card. Also, it's a bit expensive, so I'm brainstorming other solutions.

Is there any kind of bracket that will mount a fan above the PCI card slots?

Thanks,
BoB
