Seagate 7200.8 Drives are bad?

Post by mtx » Tue Dec 06, 2005 10:11 am

Just got a 250GB SATA 7200.8 yesterday to replace my 160GB SATA 7200.7 and to my amazement, this thing vibrates like a mother****** vibrates so much that when I put my hands on the table I can feel the ripple effect. It's installed in my HDD cage in my Antec SLK3700AMB WITH 4 rubber washers on each side yet it still vibrates..and I can now hear a low humming noise 3ft away from the computer .. I thought the 7200.8s were an improvement over the noiseless 7200.7s... HOW WRONG I AM.

Yeah, the difference is large between the same drives in the 7200.8 family.

I measured the vibrations with my sensitive finger at the same spot on each drive.

Vibration estimation %

Seagate ST3250823AS

Drive1: 75%
Drive2: 40%
Drive3: 100%
Drive4: 35%
Drive5: 80%
Drive6: 80%

Samsung SP1614N (Nidec): 60%
