looks nice and is sure to cool well with those heatsinks but when i took a look at the instructions PDF on their website the unit dodnt seem to ahve a geart provision for sonud deadeninig. So i ordered a Scythe quiet enclosure instead. If thats no good then I'll give the smartdrive 2002c a go.

Which Scythe did you order..? The Quiet Drive is good, but recently this very enclosure you posted was added to www.scytheusa.com , it's called the "FANLESS HDD BOX". And i have no idea how well it works. It costs 19.90$, compared to 39.90$ for the Quiet Drive, which i know is a good product.

i ordered the regular "quiet drive"

vibration reduction equals temperature increase - right?

About the new $20 Scythe box: Fins on the outer box to (one hopes) keep the outer box cool. Rubber screws to isolate the HDD's vibration from the outer box - good. The rubber screws eliminate thermal conduction via metal-to-metal contact from the HDD to the outer box - rusult, HDD temperature is gonna skyrocket.

All HDD "quiet" boxes face this problem. I don't believe it has been fixed yet.

The Quiet Drive works pretty well, with some airflow temps are only a few degrees higher than without the enclosure. I've noticed the same with most enclosures. If you put one in the 5,25" slots though, make sure you open up some covers. Without airflow it ill cook, you don't need a lot but little is a lot better than none.
