....and it contained a WD10EAVS hard drive
I've never heard of this drive nor can i find any reference to it
I'm a little confused. I was under the impression that there were only two WD 1TB drives the WD10EACS and the RAID version?

The same drives are in Netgear's ReadyNAS product, and lieky a few others.
If I had to guess I'd say the 'V" stands for "Vendor" and are likely OEM units shipped for use in other companies products while the "C" stands for "Consumer" and are shipped for end-user purchase.

Does anyone know the differences that warrant a new product name
If this drive was identical to its consumer counterparts, why the new name?

If "V" for Vendor is correct, then this probably signifies some sort of flag to the hdd's BIOS that allows vendors to rebrand it with their own name. If that is the case then I would anticipate no other changes to the drive.

Don't know about that model but they do have a new WD10EVCS model, that they call their "AV" drive, aimed at 24-7 use in AV equipment like set top boxes etc. This drive is a retail drive, so maybe the "V" in this one stands for video or something?

It's nice and quiet, and seems really similar to the CS so I'm happy with it.

I suspect the biggest difference is in the warranty arrangements. ie, the OEM drives don't have any through WD themselves.

Someone else just mentioned this drive in another thread.
I found some specs - the drive only has an 8mb cache compared to the EACS (16mb) and EADS (32mb).
