Off the shelf drive suspension

Post by Derek Baker » Sat Sep 20, 2008 11:12 am

What's the best OTS drive suspension?

Looking at No Vibes III.

Thoughts/alternatives?

Thanks.

scythe quiet drives are IMO, the best decoupling/dampening devices on the market.

They have a version for 3.5" and for 2.5" drives.

Thanks for the reply. Hadn't looked at that.

However it seems it's better at stopping noise rather than vibration, and it is the later I am concerned about.

I never noticed the vibration issue because ive only ever used 2.5" notebook drives with it, which have basically no vibration to begin with.

If your buying new hardware i think thats the best way to go, to get drives with low amounts of vibration rather than getting a higher vibration drive and then trying to decouple it.

But i guess if your trying to quiet an existing drive with high vibration, suspension may be your best/only option.

I've got a pair of 500GB Samsungs.

No drive upgrade planned in the near future.

NoVibes III's are very good but can be a little expensive. I used them a lot a few years back. I cannot think of any better OTS solution.

The NoVibes III was reviewed 6 years ago and what was said then, still holds true today.

Thanks to those who posted.

They're in now, and the Sammies are essentially silent.
