2.5" drive in p180 Q

Post by warriorpoet » Sat Dec 27, 2008 7:29 am

I'm upgrading the last loud component of my PC in the next month, and I'd like a little input.

Most often when really, really low noise levels are sought one of two storage options comes up: SSD or 2.5". I mostly like what I see when SSD performance is considered, but the price is  . 2.5" drives are nice, and short of the Raptor they're sold at a premium, but the cost isn't prohibitive.

Now, my Q.

Have the 7200rpm 2.5" drives evolved to the point they can be considered for extremely low noise situations (small recording studio)? I'm considering the Seagate Momentus 7200RPM drives in Scythe 2.5-3.25" enclosures softmounted using the stock silicon mounts in a p180 lower chamber. Will it work?

FWIW, I have access to external drives when I need them, so the smaller capacity of the 2.5" drives won't kill me.
