I nearly bought this 2 platter 5400rpm drive, but instead got a deal on an open box 7200rpm WD Scorpio Black WD3200BEKT. The big Blue doesn't seem too far from the smaller Black's performance. Too bad they didn't include the 500GB Seagate 5400.6 in the test.

Here are the absolute numbers. The new Scorpio leads the way in power efficiency.
The low-power idle number doesn't make sense though. I wouldn't expect it to be higher than active idle. At most it should be equal, indicating the feature is not implemented, or for some reason hasn't kicked in. Maybe there was an error with this particular reading.

I am pretty certain the Seagate 5400.6 uses even less power, but it also seems to have much slower latency--so it probably has lower performance/Watt. However, the old 320GB 5400.5 isn't too far from the new Scorpio Blue either.line wrote:Here are the absolute numbers. The new Scorpio leads the way in power efficiency.
