Is 2.5" Scorpio Blue quieter than 3.5" Caviar Gree

Post by darthpingoo » Tue Jan 27, 2009 11:10 am

I'm seeking for the quietest hard drive to be used as data storage disk.
My OS disk is now an OCZ SSD.

The only constraint is that the HDD must be a Western Digital.

I think Caviar Green and Scorpio Blue are the best choice.
I've seeking for a 2 platter Green (500GB/640GB) and for a 1 or 2 plater Blue (250/500GB).

But are the 2.5" quieter ?
And does anybody knows the exact model number for the 1 platter 250GB Blue ?

I've got both, WD10EADS & WD5000BEVT, and the scorpio blue is clearly quieter than the caviar green. The Scorpio Blue can even be hard mounted and seeks are not annoying.

I'm thinking of buying a SSD for my OS disk, waiting for new OCZ vertex series.

I just set up Vista on a Scorpio Blue 500GB today, wow, what a quiet drive! Definitely quieter than a WD10EADS.

I have a 3.5" WD10EACS, a 2.5" WD5000BEVT and a 2.5" WD3200BEVT. The 2.5" drives are definitively quieter, both in terms of idle noise and seek noise.
