Caviar RE3

Has anyone used or tested the 1TB Carviar RE3 drives? Wondering how much noise they make. Is the acoustic signature acceptable in a system built for quiet rather than silence?

Enterprise drives are not interesting for SPCR so there are no serious noise measurements made.

According to WD
------------------------------
WD RE3 1 TB
Acoustics
Idle Mode 28 dBA (average)
Seek Mode 0 33 dBA (average)
Seek Mode 3 29 dBA (average)
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=503

WD Caviar Black 1 TB
Acoustics
Idle Mode 24 dBA (average)
Seek Mode 0 33 dBA (average)
Seek Mode 3 29 dBA (average)
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=488

WD GP 1TB
Acoustics
Idle Mode 25 dBA (average)
Seek Mode 0 27 dBA (average)
Seek Mode 3 25 dBA (average)

But you have probably already checked this. :?

This might give you an idea of how loud it will be.
We do not know how WD tested it.
Hardmounted to a steel chassis etc. ?

Would these values suggest it will be OK in a system built to be quiet?

Idle Mode 28 dBA (average)
Seek Mode 0 33 dBA (average)
Seek Mode 3 29 dBA (average)

Can I ask a supplementary? Are these RE’s intended for raid config only, or can they be used solo?
