slot-load dvd drive for full-size bay?

Post by Zed Lopez » Thu Dec 31, 2009 12:53 pm

Hi all,

I'm building an HTPC in an Antec NSK2480. I'd really like a slot-load DVD player, but all the ones I can find are slim-sized for laptops.

Does anyone know of a full-size slot-load DVD drive or a way to adapt the slim-sized ones to a full bay?

There's this

http://linitx.com/viewproduct.php?prodid=12680

I know that is a UK site, but it may give you a beacon of hope that such a thing exists!

I don't believe there are any full-size slot-load DVD drives any more. There were some years ago but I think they died out.

That's a big help, thanks -- "slim cd drive bay" gave me the search term needed to find a couple of options.

Pioneer had slot loaded optical drives back in the day.

Today with cheap USB-sticks, HDDs and fast internet access I don't really see the point of using an internal optical drive, but that's just me.
