usb memory sticks

Is it possible to boot the pc from usb memory sticks?
i m curious if we can use a memory stick instread of a HDD
there are memory sticks http://www.memorysuppliers.com/bu4gb40usb20.html
over 4GB(too expensive) but their price will drop soon
if we use memory sticks then we will have 0db noise??

Having recently got one of these babies, I can confirm that they run quiet :) . More seriously, though, not all motherboards support booting off a USB port - you would need to check the BIOS section of the manual. And not all flash drives are configurable as bootable devices - in fact very few are; check the specs carefully, if it doesn't say it is, it probably isn't.......

The only problem with them is that you can't write to them very often ..

same problem as cf card i presume, u can only have so may write states or sumin
