WD 8TB RED questions (AAM levels and wdidle)

Post by Kaleid » Fri Dec 21, 2018 5:46 pm

I just purchased a 8TB drive and it's not as quiet as the former 4TB Green when it comes to reads and writes, this despite being in a soft mounted Scythe Quietdrive.
Instantly I wanted to disable head parking as I usually do with WD drives but this doesn't seem to work at all. Is there a newer tool than 1.05 which does? I can't seem to locate and must admit that I'm not up to date with the bigger drives.

I'm fine with the drive when it comes to idle sound, but the read and writes are clearly more audible than WD Green, is there a AAM tool which functions with this drive? I don't mind slower access times, I just want to kill the sound from it.

The model in question is a WD80EFZX
i5 4670k (@4.2), Asus Z87-C, Mugen 2 revB (500rpm), Club 3d 280x with AC S1+ (700+500rpm), 24GB Kingston 1600Mhz, Crucial MX100 512GB SSD, 4TB+3TB WD Green (in softm. Scythe quietdrives), Soundblaster Z, Asus MG279Q, Corsair RM650i, Antec p180 (2x500rpm slipstream)
