Undervolting p4?

Post by paperboy5 » Sat Nov 27, 2004 6:11 pm

Hi all,

is there anyway to undervolt the p4s? I got a abit is-7(cant undervolt in bios) and p4 3.0c but most of the time i just do word processing, surfing the web and some occasional gaming. I hope to lower the temperatures so that I can turn down(if possible, turn off) the fans.

Any software that is able to do that?

Thanks.

Yes they can be undervolted, but....... (here comes the long winded part)

I don't believe you will get it cool enough to turn off the fans. I recently tried to upgrade to a gigabyte 875 chipset board from and intel 845 board and the thing ran my 2.0 at 2019 mhz instead of the 1997 mhz that the intel board did. The thing acted strange giving wierd beeps from the speaker on the mobo and the cpu ran about 10c hotter.

Anyway on to the point, Gigabyte has a utility called easytune that allowed undervolting which was necessary to get the thing to run correctly.
The temps that I got from undervolting it only droppped it a few degrees, so I am inclined to think that you wont be able to get the effect that you are looking for.

But who knows ymmv due to the fact that my results were from a dud mobo.
