XP-120 w/ Antec Tricool 120mm or Zalman 7700Cu ?

Post by absinthe » Wed Nov 16, 2005 1:05 pm

Greetings,
I'm a bit worried with 7700Cu weight, so I was wondering if I could use the spare fan (next to the power psu) from P180 and put it on XP-120 at low speed since I will not be using a passive psu. Concerning noise/cooling, would this be a better option then Zalman's 7700Cu (AlCu i also an alternative) ?

I have Asus A8V Deluxe w/ X2 3800+

Thanks in advance.

The XP-120 with a quiet fan at low speeds will be quieter and lighter than the 7700Cu or the 7700AlCu. The XP-120 is close to being the best CPU cooler out there (next to the Ninja maybe). I think an XP-120 with the same airflow as the 7700 will perform better. However, it comes at a price since it is more expensive than the 7700 series and doesn't come with a fan.

How about an SI-120 (same company, same performance, no compatibility issues)?
Also, the Tri-Cool doesn't have a three pin power connector. I'd go with a Nexus 120mm and crush the solid corners with a pair of pliers before I'd replace the Tri-Cool's power connector. <---voice of experience

edit: yes you can use the Tri-Cool if you want to, if you change the power connection, or disable motherboard fan monitoring. Yes, the XP/SI-120 is far better/lighter than the 7700.
