What is the lowest temperature you have got with air cooling
I was just wondering how low a low temp is. With An Athlon 64 what is the lowest temp you have got with air cooling and what did you get it with?

<40C passive
Hello,
I've got an Athlon 64 3200+ (Venice?) running at stock voltage with a Zalman 7000 Al/Cu, in an Evercase/Fortron Green 300w/medium speed Yate Loon at ~8v, with four HD's -- and the BIOS only turns on the Zalman fan above 40C. It is Folding and the fan only kicks on once in a whille... Oh, the room temp is ~68F.
So, it passive with "only" a Zalman 7000 Al/Cu, with 100% load and it stays under 40C.

Well this is all quite cool, Im running my Athlon 64 3200+ (Venice) OCd to 3800+. It has a Thermalright XP-120 and a Nexus fan and is running as low as 27 idle.
Edit. With Case side off i see it drops to 23C who said OCing made processors hot.

i'm not sure how accurate my temperature sensors are, as the previous bios was reporting them as much as 10C higher than they are with the current bios. Regardless, with CnQ enabled, I idle at room temperature, somtimes even less than that. With it disabled, and a 400mhz overclock, with F@H running, it gets up to 43C. Room temp is typically 23-24C at my place. Without the OC, it will run F@H at 34-35C, and idle around 30C w/o CnQ. I think the sensors are a bit funkay though..as with any overclock, it idles at about 40C, and never goes above 43C under load...what some of the people in the abit forums are suggesting is that the sensor isn't really sensing temperature, as much as it's sensing processor load or something....all i know, is my 9500's heat pipes are barely warm when the thing reports 43C.

Absolute temps are, IMHO, meaningless. Not only are there problems with how they are being reported/recorded (which sensor, where, BIOS rev ...) but also in a quiet case, temps are usually higher than you might expect due to a priority on acoustics rather than cooling.
For the record my CPU temp is currently 3C higher than case temp, and is not audible to me, overclocked and Folding 24/7.
Now the small print:
1) CnQ is active, so actually running 1.1VCore.
2) HTT is 254, so actual CPU speed is 1270MHz
3) Case temp is about 8C higher than room temp
4) Case temp is being read/reported by uGuru - or in fact an open-source version of it. I never worked out where the sensor is but am confident it is in a low airflow area as I have very few high airflow areas!
5) CPU temp as reported via uGuru
etc

Yeh i know this, but i just thought it would be fun.dukla2000 wrote:Absolute temps are, IMHO, meaningless. So I guess my Winchester 3200 running C'N'Q (1.18V, 1GHz) and idling at 47C is too hot. I'm using an XP-90, AS5, and a 5V'd Coolermaster 120mm. I gave up folding because it was getting too hot. I thought it was because I didn't have any case fans.
Should I try reattaching the XP-90 (I still have some AS5)?

Something is definitely wrong there. I have my Athlon XP-M at 1.25 V and 1.13 GHz and it usually idles at around 36*C with the fan turned to lowest and the entire system stuffed deep under the desk so that the air coming up off the fan doesn't have much place to go (back pressure) and the hot air isn't really going anywhere, it just stays there. (CPUBurn gets it to maybe high 40s; with window open I've seen it go down to 28*C idle.)
Re-attaching might be a good idea. Check the contact surface of the XP-90 while you're at it, to make sure it's flat.

I agree with dukla, and I think most serious silencers here would. This is really not the right place to ask about lowest temps, as that is not what most of us here are aiming for.
IMHO if your temps are much below 45C then you've got too much cooling, ergo your system is probably too noisy!
Personally I aim for around 50C, and have the quietest, most efficient cooling I can to achieve that temp. If it's running cooler than that I turn my fans down.

On the contrary i think you can have both, all i have cooling my processor is a XP-120 with a 5v Nexus, the only way it could be quieter is to take it off. I dont know if i could get my processor to get to 50C if i tryed.pangit wrote:I agree with dukla, and I think most serious silencers here would. I redid my heatsink today and I'm still getting about the same temps, 47 idle and 57 load. Maybe my temp diode is just reading high? I cleaned the heatsink and CPU heat spreader with rubbing alcohol until they were shining like they just came out of the box. I then followed the artic silver instructions on the website and XP-90 installation went very smooth. All the clips are attached.jackylman wrote:So I guess my Winchester 3200 running C'N'Q (1.18V, 1GHz) and idling at 47C is too hot. I'm using an XP-90, AS5, and a 5V'd Coolermaster 120mm. Ideas?
That's the funny part. It doesn't even feel warm. Either the temperatures reported are too high or the heatsink is not attached properly. I'm not sure what to do differently. I cleaned both surfaces, followed the instructions for AS5 and the XP-90, and had a smooth installation. The heatsink seems to have a good bit of pressure and the contact surface didn't look concave.vertigo wrote:Does the heatsink feel hot? The finger test is best...
Thanks for your help. I should have mentioned that I did the finger test.
