Scythe Ninja or Thermalright SI-120

Hi all,

This is my first post so please bear with me.

As the subject reads I need to know which heatsink will be best for my setup. I am currently using a Thermaltake CL-P0024 as the heatsink with one 80mm fan.

This is my system:
AMD X2 4400+
MSI K8N Diamond Plus motherboard
2GB Corsair memory
EVGA 7800GT with Zalman VF-700Cu
2x160GB and 1x250GB

As for the case, I just odered an Antec P180, which I haven't received yet.

I am also wondering which fan will be the best to use with either of these heatsinks, one that has multiple speed options.

Greetings & welcome to SPCR,

I'd go with the Ninja -- you might not even need a fan on it in the P180. I just built an X2 4200+ with 2GB, and two video cards in an Evercase 4252, and it is fine with just the Scythe 120mm exhaust at 5v, the S12 430 just above it, and a Scythe 92mm @ 5v on the intake. The highest temp I have seen with two instances of Folding@Home running (and the air temp in the room above 80F/27C), is 54C. I've undervolted the CPU down to 1.26v, as well. No too shabby for a "passive" HS and some 5v fans!

I should stress that the Scythe fan that comes with the Ninja plus is a noisy thing, or so I have heard from folks here. But the DF and the S-Flex Scythe models are quite nice.

You're in about exactly the same situation as me. I am currently deciding between those two heatsinks, and i will also be using the p180. Unfortunately I can't help you because I haven't even decided for myself.
