New low-profile Zalman cooler

Post by Mariner » Fri Jun 02, 2006 2:27 am

Just encountered this page and it's the first I've seen of this cooler (which doesn't seem to be listed on Zalman's web site as yet). Probably a useful one for low-profile HTPC cases although it will still be a little too big for the new Silverstone LC19 which I've got my eye on!

Humm....strange, it looks like some airflow could escape through the openings in the "Zalman" logos. Not to mention the possibility of noise being generated.

It could also use a fan swap, if we are to expect traditional Zalman-quality fans.. :(

This thing is as "low-profile" as a CNPS-7000, check the specs.

Yep, but in this day and age of giant coolers it still classes as pretty low profile if you ask me!

Quoted cooling specs are much better considering the two coolers are of similar dimensions: 0.13-0.20°C/W for the 8000 vs 0.20-0.27 °C/W for the 7000.

As usual we'll have to see how quiet the fan is though.

they announced this many months ago...and yes, it's intended for use with lower power cpu's, in cases that are starved for space.

When I was looking for a low profile HSF, I briefly considered buying a Zalman VGA cooler and rigging it onto a CPU, but I chickened out. There is at least one VGA cooler that has the usual (horizontally) circular fins and is lower profile than this beast.

Cool. The clip design seems like it's AM2 compatible. Can anybody confirm from the photos?

C'mon man, this review is better than their take on another product such as Scythe Quiet Drive or S-Flex, or many other horrible reviews at their site. Wonder why Scythe really love those Proclockers Guys...

I think CNPS 8000 would outperform 7000, and an alternative(read:copy) from XP90 where height restiction may concern, and I guess it would be cheaper than XP90 too.

Hmmm even Thermalright copytake another company's design...

I mentioned that option in the VGA cooler comparisson article thread, just last week. :D

the reviewer agreed that it should be powerful enough, but that riggin it to the righ height might be a chalange.

be sure to post pictures if you change your mind.

another review:
Zalman CNPS8000 and ZM STG1 Super Thermal Grease

Image
with fan on each cooler set at highest speed- AMD64 3800

wonder what he meant about mid-point there....2000rpm?
The Reviewer wrote:.....but we also wanted to see how well the unit performed with the speed set at a mid-point which would be completely inaudible and to make sure we couldn't hear it we pulled out our X850X video card and slide in our X600 Pro which is passively cooled. Once everything was in place we once again ran our stress tests and the results really shocked me. The idle temperature went up 2 degrees and the load temperature went up a total of 9 degrees to 54 degrees which in my book is excellent for being set at such a low rotation rate.
The STG1 is quite interesting IMO
