120 fan for XP-120 on Intel Bad Axe

Post by Schlotkins » Mon Jun 19, 2006 6:32 pm

Which fan is best to use for the XP-120 on a 775 socket? the Nexus? Also, what power pin configuration do I need to plug it into the motherboard?

Thanks!
Chris

I found a Nexus to be a little bit low in airflow for the 3.0C Northwoods in a socket 478. I'm using a Papst 4412 F/2GL, slowed down to ~1400 rpm max with a Fanmate 2 at max, but using the variable voltage of the Abit FanEQ function. I'd think that a Globalwin would be just about perfect.

Do you mean the fan connector? All 3-pin fan connectors are wired the same AFAIK: Gnd-Hot (5-12V)-Speed sense (I think).

If you're replacing the stock CPU cooler, which you obviously are, I think you'll probably want a 4-pin PWM fan for that board. You'll need to connect some fan to the CPU fan connector, otherwise the BIOS won't let the system boot up. You might be able to connect a 3-pin fan, but the motherboard won't be able to control the speed based on CPU temperature.

I've got a Bad Axe here, and that I what I've learned so far, although I haven't replaced the stock CPU cooler yet. So I'll be interested to know what you figure out.
