any news on OCZ Tempest?

Post by aztec » Fri Jul 14, 2006 5:43 am

I've googled but haven't found any reviews.

This seems to be an interesting, low-profile cooler....(I can't believe this is considered low profile now) :D

I was thinking of this for my Conroe build as the 4 heatpipes should provide better cooling than any stock HS/F.

As far as I know, no reviews have been posted yet.

It does look promising though- similar to the SLK-9xxes.

That heatsink looks like an aluminium version of Sharkoon Red Shock which has been around since mid 2005:

I'm kind of dissapointed with the lack of innovation in this design. In the low-profile, 4 heatpipe arena, the Zalman 8000 looks even more suitable to small form factor.

And if they are planning on attacking the value segment, they will be hard-pressed to out-price the AMD X2 heat-pipe HSF, which is going for about $15 nowadays and should offer comparable performance.

Where? What's it called, in its retail incarnation?

AMD includes the above HSF on X2 4400+ and up CPUs. Opterons and FX-series come bundled with a similar cooler. Note that this cooler has gone through several revisions, and existed in a 2 heatpipe version and a 4 heatpipe version with 60mm fan. The latest incarnation sports a 80mm fan and 4 heatpipes attached to a copper base. OEM manufacturer appears to be either Cooler Master or Thermaltake.

good points all.

I'm actually looking for a 4-pipe, low profile HS than can take a 92mm fan for an E6600.

the Zalman looks good....though I'm still going to wait and see reviews on the Tempest.

EDIT:

Geez! Tempest is 54$ at performancepcs. Way too much for *simple* HS technology/design.

it looks identical to the Sharkoon Redshock and it's defintely not geared towards low airflow/passive CPU cooling.
