Best passive cooling for Conroe

Post by sgtspiff » Wed Sep 20, 2006 7:23 am

I want to buy a conroe to put in the Silverstone TJ08 case (buying that to). But I don't want to have any fans except the in and out 120mm. So I will buy two nexus fans for this.
But my question is;

What Heatsink shall I buy if I want to run it passive? Maybe with home made duct to the out fan.

Scythe Ninja?
Scythe Infinity?
Thermalright HR01?
Silverstone NT01?
Noctua NH-U12?
Sunbeam Tuniq Tower?
Thermaltake Sonic Tower?

I just cant find info about passively running these.
Are there any I should rule out directly?

Don't know for sure, but Ninja can cool pssively your C2D just fine.
As tested on many sites, Tuniq Tower could do better but is very hard to get one in most countries.

I run my E6600 with a fanless Ninja. Works perfectly in my Antec Solo. I considered making a duct of some sort but I ditched that idea since it is totally unnecessary

I'm planning to do something very similar with the TJ08 in the
next three to six months. Let us know how it turns out! Are
you considering a fanless power supply?

My budget also says months (2-4 though).

I will go with a Seasonic S12. Double Nexus for in and out circulation. A passive Geforce 7950 GT card and the HDD in a Scythe Quiet drive.
Hopefully this setup will work fine if you add the ninja fanless.
The only problem I can see is that the HDD will be far away from any fan in the 5,25 rack.
Maybe a better northbridge cooler is in its place.

I picked up a sonic tower from microcenter-- went in wanting a ninja, but they were sold out :(

Anyway, after the horrendous installation, it works great "passive" with my two 120mm system fans. Idles at 34-37, haven't looked at load temp yet. Tonight I'm gonna ghetto mod it by inserting another 120mm fan in between the two stacks with some paper clips. I'm betting it'll drop temps another 5-7 degrees based on what other people have said this does, but we'll see.

but until that i think the tuniq ,ninja and the infenity are the best for passive.

Is the Ninja SCNJ-1100P the same as the reviewed model on SPCR? If not, what are the differences?
