Well, Ninjas are masters of disguise...

There are a few differences, but that is definitely based on the Ninja. Would be interesting to see if the Z cutout or the different corners have any effect on the cooling performance.

It probibly slightly lower performance compered with Ninja since the corner area is "missing".

Hello,

I'd guess that the surface area of the OCZ unit are slightly greater than the Ninja -- remember the deep notches at the corners of the Ninja? These are prone to bending, so the OCZ is probably better in this regard.

OTOH, the 'Z' probably has a larger area than the center circle on the Ninja...so it probably comes down to the base and/or the mounting system.

What is the mounting system of the OCZ? Some people seem to have mounting issues with the Ninja... If this OCZ has an improved mounting system, it might be worth something?

According this picture: http://www.ocztechnology.com/images/pro ... ator_3.jpg the mounting (at least for 775) is similar to Ninja Rev. B but it looks like the brackets are much narrower and may be more compatible.

Also, it ships with a slower fan (1000 rpm), so it may be quieter at stock speeds.

It is a very good sign that the stock fan is a 1000RPM model. It probably is not a Yate Loon, since it has open corners:

The bracket is either two piece, or (more likely) is embossed for more stiffness:

If they had the integrity to just call it the OCZ Ripoff or even,more subtle,the Karma,I'd consider it.

I guess a copy was overdue,as the other good designs have been copied already.

I doubt this is a ripoff, and it is most likely just a heat sink built by Scythe to OCZ's specs on the same assembly line. Just like how companies like Goodyear and Michelin make rebranded tires for generic names like Kirkland(?) and Canadian Tire. I can't see OCZ having a factory of their own to produce this kind of stuff in-house.

Its price is attractive, so it will be interesting to see if the seemingly minor changes they have made make it better or not...

Just by eyeballing it my personal guess is that the Vindicator has greater surface area, not only because of the deep notches, but also the bigger notches the Ninja has near the bottom.

Is the fin count the same?

Hello Brian,

Yes, they both have 23 fins. Another small difference is the extruded aluminum HS bit just above the base -- it seems to be a bit bigger on the OCZ. They don't seem to list a weight anywhere?

Well, Froogle has two listings, one of them a well-known outlet in Fremont CA, just north of San Jose. It'll be interesting to see how the mounting compares to the wonderful, popular, Ninja revB mounting.

A 1000 RPM fan? This is suddenly a lot more interesting. All the press release said was that the fan would "aggressively cool the processor," which didn't strike me as newsworthy!

If any positive reviews come out, I'll definitely post a news story, but at this point it still doesn't seem very... new.

BrianE: Based on the OCZ reps' comments on the NCIX forums, it appears that this is actually manufactured and designed in-house, but that could just be OCZ playing their cards close to their metaphorical chest.
