Hello,

It would also appear that the size of each fin is smaller, as well:

...or is this an optical illusion?

Well, specs say mini-ninja is 110x110x115 vs 110x110x150 for regular sized one, so the fins should be the same size. In this particular picture it the mini-ninja stands closer to the camera, so I suppose that's why they seem smaller.

If Mini-Ninja specs are right, then we'll probably see someone fitting 120mm fan on it. I wonder if that would have any real use on Mini Ninja.

120mm would be an overkill, 92 or 100mm would be perfect.

I have to say this has thrown a spanner in the works, was planning on getting an SI-128 for my fusion based HTPC.

Would love to see the results of someone putting one in a fusion / NSK2400 with only the exhaust fans. :)

Looking at this photo,
Image
To me it looks like the heatpipes on the mini are in a better configuration than on the original. The 12 pipes are evenly distributed around the fins instead of having 4 central "hot spots" like on the original.

Not sure if it will make any difference but it looks like it would dissipate more heat per fin than the original. I know the more fins on the original will make it dissipate more heat over all but I'm looking forward to seeing some reviews of the mini. If it performs well and is in the $25-$30 range, I'd like to replace my si-128 in my NSK-2400 with one of these.

I like the look of this mini ninja, I hope it equals a lower price too!

Agreed -- the fins also start lower down, which lowers the CG even more. Looks like a winnah!

I think that the Mini Ninja or "Minja" as someone called it will have a very good performance with the same amount of airflow as the Original Ninja. It wont be as good, but its heatpipes are better spread out, so will give better heat distribution to the fins, this will help offset having 6 fewer fins and a smaller surface area per fin, but I expect the Mini Ninja to still have a big punch. and of course fit into a 2400NSK.

I noticed that the package it comes with the 775 bracket is a lot better designed. Looks like it won't get in the way of any capacitors this time. If that's the case, maybe it's time to take out the Ninja in my comp and put this one in since I undervolt anyway.

Scythe includes a 2300rpm 80mm fan (claimed airflow of 32,2CFM) and allows mounting of a 92mm fan.
Still no specs on the Scythe web site. A Nexus 80mm fan weighs 85 grams, most fans weigh more. I'd rather have the exact weight of the heatsink but I guess its just under 500 grams?

Code: Select all

Heatsink/Fan Noise Fan V °C Rise °C/W MP Weight
Thermalright XP-90, Nexus 92 ($35) 20 12 22+ 0.29 ~460 (360+fan)
Thermalright XP-120, Nexus 120 ($45) 20 9 27 0.27 493* (370+fan)
Thermalright SI-120, Nexus 120 ($50) 20 9 ?? 0.?? 523* (400+fan)
Scythe Ninja-Mini, Nexus 92 ($??) 20 12 ?? 0.?? 580* (???+fan)
Scythe Ninja, Nexus 120 ($50) 20 9 16 0.20 788* (665+fan)
* http://www.nexustek.nl/120mmcasefan.htm lists the Nexus 120mm fan at 123g
http://www.nexustek.nl/92mm_real_silent_case_fan.htm lists 98.5g
http://www.nexustek.nl/80mmcasefan.htm lists 85g

If the Ninja-Mini with a 5v fan can out cool a XP-90/Nexus 92 at 12v or a XP-120/Nexus 120 at 7v then I'm interested. It can't just beat one of them by a hair with the same fan and voltage it has to be significantly cooler at the same noise level to win me over.

In other words if the °C/W MP is below 0.30 when the noise level is below 25 dBA measured as SPCR would... eh screw it, I'll just wait for a proper review...

Launch date:

"Ninja Mini should be approximately launched in 4 to 6 weeks. If everything goes by plan in around 6 weeks you should be able to purchase it in UK.

lawl, sure if you wanna epoxy 500g's worth of weight to your GPU die. The PCB board will bend considerably without proper support.

Will Mini Ninja fit the Fusion?

Post by yahui168 » Mon Jul 23, 2007 11:06 am

Will mini Ninja fit the Antec Fusion/V2/Black?

The minja is 115mm in height and although I can't find the dimensions of the Antec Fusion V2, it seems that it should be the same as the NSK2400.

According to http://www.silentpcreview.com/article591-page1.html the chassis of NSK2400 is 5.25 inches or 133mm in height (6 inches with feet). That leaves only 18mm for the motherboard and cpu. Is that enough space?

i had never imagened 6 weeks could be that long :(

I don't want to order a SI-128 to replace the extremely loud stock cooler and realise only 2 weeks afterwards that the mini ninja performs better when it's passive.

Scythe could provide me a testing example.

It showed up for sale on Scythe's US Website over the weekend.

http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/cpu/0 ... etail.html

Im going to wait untill it arrives at a store and hope the price is lower. $49 is a little more then I was expecting.

The only thing that's changed in the manufacturing costs is a very few less aluminum cooling fins. The bending/assembly of the heat-pipes is slightly more complicated. The potential market is a lot smaller. It's a boutique item, not a mass-market item. :(

per that german eBay ad it is 580g "ohne Lüfter" or without fan. So the Mini Ninja is considerably heavier than a XP 120 or SI 120.

Still waiting for that first review. Hoping they will test it with a 92mm fan at about 1350 RPM or about 25 to 30 CFM

The 80mm stock fan will have about the same cooling power as a 92mm Nexus (or any other 1200 RPM 92mm fan).

Of course if I got one I'd slap a DFS922512L on it at 5V (or speedfan it). Not sure what the RPMs would be.

I'm thinking of teaming this up with a new Celeron 440 which is 35W (half a C2D @ 2GHz but less cache) in my wife's NSK2400. Have 1 exhaust fan and PSU fan and that's it...
