Any way to replace stock fan on Zalman CNPS 9700??

Post by thegoldenstrand » Fri Mar 23, 2007 10:39 pm

Hi,

I remember seeing how one contributor to this board replaced the stock fan on the CNPS 9500. Any ideas on how to do this on the CNPS 9700?

Please share pictures, if you have managed to accomplish a quieting of this heatsink.

I have a couple of them. Just a note compared to review. My CNPS 9700 runs my CPUS about 4-6 C cooler than my CNPS 9500 for identical processors on identical motherboards based on same motherboard readings and at similar noise levels. The smaller ones seems smoother and the larger seems to come with a little more grinding. As far as temp rising.. very small increase from 12 V to 6V for me.. maybe 1-2 C Max in my system.

Idle @ 30C for Opteron 185 compared to 34 for CNPS 9500 on Asus Premium according to board hardware temp monitor and 42C versus 48C on Asus A8R32-MVP board.

I can hear the fan grinding away and would prefer it be quieter. However, it gets dwarfed by my home fans, air conditioning that incredibly LOUD fan in the bathroom, etc..

Any one have any ideas on how to quiet the bathroom fan???

If you search the forum, you should find the process explained for the 9500. The 9700 mod should be pretty much the same.

Hi, the fan in the 9700 is listed as 110mm, I don't know if the center/blades from a "standard" 120mm fan would fit. Maybe someone who has one can confirm how much room is in the 9700. If 120mm fan won't fit a 92mm fan might still work well, also Scythe make a 100mm fan that might be a good candidate if can fan swap. Or can mount the 120mm fan infront of the fins, probably work fine, especially with duct/shroud. Good luck, Seb
