fan to a ninja ?

what fan should i get for my ninja (AM2 3800, asrock am2nf6g) and where is the best place to mount it ?

do i really need another 120mm fan on the backside of the case if i have a fan on the cooler ?

I am running the Ninja passive with Yate Loon 120 on the back and 1 Nexus 80 on the front, My temps are 21 (and ambient 21) idle and about 25 when ripping CDs. I don't game so I don't know what might happen then. Hope that helps some.

when you mount the ninja, the best place to mount the fan would be so that the fan in blowing air over the fins toward the back of the case, where the rear fan is for exhaust, so it just cools it.

as for the fan, well, it doesn't really matter, you could use an S-Flex, Nexus, maybe undervolt the stock fan...you might be best off with the s-flex though.

Hello,

I would do it the other way 'round -- put the fan in the rear of the case, exhausting the air out, and put no fan on the Ninja at all. That works great for my Athlon 64 X2 4200+ -- and the rear fan only runs part of the time! Sometimes, just the S12 PSU above the Ninja is running, along with the 5v 92mm intake...

that was my first thought but i can't mount the fan there cuz the ram

thats sounds like a good idea. and the ninja don't get any heatprob not having any fan attached to it ?

Hello,

What case are you using? If the air flow is decent, then the Ninja is excellent at "passive" cooling. Here's my system in an Evercase 4252, with a "passive" Ninja on an Athlon 64 X2 4200+:

checked the pics and the inside of the case looks "almost" the same. i think i gonna give it a try, big thanks for the help

edit: win xp cool 'n' quiet drivers. anyone know where to get it ? only find drivers for windows me/2000 ?

Here's another vote for a passive Ninja. Heck, the cooler was designed just for that. Click my sig to see pics. A 120mm fan @ 5V in the rear, 1 x 120m fan @ 5V in the PSU, 1 x 92mm @ 5V in the front. With 22 ambient I idle at 33 and go up to 55 when I play sth. serious like Oblivion. I don't even have to crank any of the fans up for gaming.

seems the temp is like 38-40 after some hour's. is that ok or ?

Is that under load or idle? Under load I wouldn't worry unless it went over 55-ish, but that seems reasonable for idle anyway.

It's been a while since I've had to download CnQ drivers.... doesn't AMD have XP drivers on their site? I remember I downloaded them somewhere for my XP system and got it working... Maybe try Microsoft's site.

3hrs with unpacking,installing,rebooting, nothing to heavy but not idle either.
i can't find any CnQ settings in the bios at all. is't just to change the power scheme to "Minimal Power Management" in windows maybe ?

Well I think there is supposed to be at least one CnQ option (enable/disable) in the BIOS someplace, but I remember reading somewhere that you need the motherboard to support it, and also you need to get a separate Windows driver to make it work....

Can someone else put a word on this issue here? I feel like I'm on shaky ground just going from memory on this!

Maybe try searching around here or the net... I am sure that's where I learned about this issue.

EDIT: Okay, so if those temps are with the CPU doing "some" work, that looks better temperature-wise. It'll be even better once you get CnQ working.

Those temps are just fine. If it makes you feel better, I have been running my x2 3800+ for 20 months now with 45c idle temps. I'm not really sure what my temps are with Ninja (I stopped monitoring, because it's useless), but probably close to 44 celsius...
