Prophet 3D 4500 64MB video card. Fanless?

Post by DarkNMSS » Tue Apr 29, 2003 2:31 am

I have a Kyro II Prophet 3D 4500 card and was wondering if anyone knows how hot one of these things get and it's operating temperatures. It uses a very small heatsink with a 40mm fan on it. I don't think that the card runs that hot considering it's such an old card and runs on 175/175 timings. I've removed the fan before and touched it after a few minutes of just idling and it feels warm. Course the heat sink can barely even be called a heat sink considering it doesn't have fins in the center of it. It looks more or less like a pickle jar lid. I think the Zalman heat pipe products are overkill for this card, and was hoping I can just remove the fan and replace the heat sink with the Zalman NB32J chipset heatsink. Do you think it's a good idea to run it passively? Or should I put an undervolted panaflo fan over top of it? Or is this just a bad idea all together?

Thanks in advance.
