Volcano 9 ... Fan or Heatsink ?

Post by grambr » Sun May 18, 2003 6:48 pm

:?
Are you sure the real problem was the fan and not the **** heatsink which comes with the Volcano 9 ?

I mounted the fan off a V 9 on a Cooler Master HHC-001 heatsink (copper with 2 x heat pipes) .... it cools a 2500 XP nicely at < 2000 rpm and is fairly quiet.

As for the standard 60mm Cooler Master fan, that went in the bin after 2 hours screaming in my left ear, to join the V 9 heatsink.

All of the Volcano heatsinks are crap-tastic. I had a 7, a 9, and bought an 11 to see if anything changed. Nothing changed.

And don't even get me started on the fan. You know someone was sleeping on the job, when a $4 generic 80mm case fan cools better than the automatic variable unit on the V9.
