Phanteks T30-120, a new King is rising

Post by Abula » Thu Aug 12, 2021 8:29 am

A new fan was just released from Phantek, the T30-120 official webpage, promotional video Phanteks T30 - The Ultimate Performance Fan

Available on Amazon: Phanteks (PH-F120T30_BG) T30-120 Fan, Premium high-Performance Fan, PWM, Black/Grey $29.99

Seems another clone on the Gentle Typhon, that adds to the list, Noctua NF-A12x25, Thermaltake ToughFan 12, Scythe Wonder Snail, DarkSide Gentle Typhoon, etc. The spin that Phantek gave it was 5mm extra on width and using levitation bearing.

I order one to see the PWM curves, ill post them when i get it.

I'll try to update this post with reviews,

Seems awesome and quite innovative fan, so hope igor'slab or hardwareluxx will test it with their more serious methodologies. Performace wise some part of it's domination is increased thickness as it means more airflow and static pressure.

I generally really like that Noctua starts to get their ass seriously kicked by rivals. First Scythe with Wonder Snails to give you black A12x25 sooner and cheaper, but still great quality (btw earlier their coolers killing everything excect of D15, but let's wait for ones with WS), now Phanteks with their fan. Austrian guys need to increase the speed of their progress and maybe focus more exactly on it instead of working few years on black paint for their fans, passive cooler or damn desk fan :]

Thanks!

I wonder how they are dealing with master/slave for sensor when daisy-chained?

I wonder if they can be run low enough to be quiet, also i noise signature seems not as nice as other options. But def good to see more new options!

Good review, seems to quieter than the noctua at same rpm, but moves less air at low rpm compared to the noctua.

From the audio clips it doesnt sound as nice however, but that cant be 100% representative.

Adding the Bitwit video, while not a pure T30 review, its one of the fans he tests and practically wins all the tests. Sadly he didnt had a NF-A12x25, which imo should preform very close.

Your video led me to this one by Major Hardware. He includes the Gentle Typhoon and the NF-A12x25.

I just received one, so ill write a bit of a small subjective noise impressions soon. But so far it seems like a solid fan, clearly the performance is good. Im having some weird pwm issues with it, where at 40% pwm it runs at 1000 rpm, even when it is switched to the 1200rpm mode on the fan. At 1000rpm you can def hear it, the pitch seems abit higher than the noctua at the same speed.

Given that these fans are 5mm thicker than most 120mm fans, how easy are they to mount on heatsinks (whose clips would generally be designed for 25mm-thick fans)?

It would be for sure problematic or DIY, but I don't think Phanteks aims people wanting to swap fans on their heatsink. It's quite enthusiastic and rather always sum of money spent on cooler and fan for swap will give you worse result than spending the same money on just better cooler. With T30-120 they include two types of screws (case and radiator) and it makes more sense ( for e.g. purely enthusiastic custom loop community ). I bet they rather aim to use these fans with their own products - use them as additional selling point. Month or two ago they released AiO equipped with these fans and I wouldn't be surprised if Phanteks tried to come back with them to air coolers territory, which they seem to give up for quite long time.

Absolutely ridiculous pricing. $50 for a fan? Not worth it.

Would rather go with Noctua, Arctic, or e-loops.

Even the most expensive fans are not much from the perspective of how long they serve without giving reasons to upgrade (progress of fan market is depresingly slow). Even such fans are cheap compared to the cost of rest of the computer. And they determine your cooling and silence during all of this time, so to my taste not going with the best ones is just a bad deal.
