I checked the reccomended section and the only fan that is not 80mm is the PC P&C Silencer 92mm

I was looking for quiet 92mm and 120mm

I'm thinking panaflo for both.

but which model for 92mm? the FBA09A12M or the FBA09A12H ?

How about the 120mm?

also, where do u guyz buy ur fans from? the only place i found was www.svc.com

So from reading the other threads. the panaflo 120mm does not start up on 5v?
the only real good one is the papst one but it cost alot.

from what i have read(which isnt much) the only good panaflo 92mm is the panaflo L1A but u have to undervolt it.

At 92mm the Papst only comes second (and again 'wins' at 120mm)

do all the papst fans click? or only the 80mm?

Some folks think highly of Acoustifans. The only 120mm fans I've owned are Panaflo FBA (M1BX) and FBK (L1A), the case fan that came with the Sonata, and a Delta fan that I picked up by accident (9.6W!!). Ignoring the Delta, the rest are noisy at 12V, especially if there is something close to the intake. At 5V they're still not exactly whisper quiet.

I have a 92mm L1A. I find that there is a buzzing noise at low voltage. The 80mm L1As don't seem to have this problem. May be my sample.

BTW U > H > M > L when it comes to airflow and noise for Panaflos. More airflow = more noise. So FBA09A12H is the high speed version. If you want lowest noise for a 92mm Panaflo, look for FBA09A12L. See Panasonic's web site for more details than you probably want to know (google for Panaflo).

I wonder if MikeC is going to add some 120mm fans to his recommended list?

Evercool makes 120mm aluminium fans that is very high cfm (and thus sounds ALOT at 12v). However they undervolt very good and are very quiet between 3.8-5v depending on if you have the possibility to undervolt that far (which you usually have if using software like speedfan). I have tested three different Evercool 120mm fans and they have all displayed the same characteristics.

I second the evercool 120mm recommendation. I run mine with
zalman fan mates @ 5v. they start everytime, no bearing noises,
no clicking noises, just air being expelled from the case noise. at
12v they are way too loud, at 5v they are acceptable. mine are rated
at 2000rpm at 12v, motherboard monitor reports approx 1050rpm @
5v. Reaction to noise is subjective-you may prefer a quieter lower air volume fan, and accept clicking/buzzing. I'll go for the steady air noise
with no clicking/buzzing. these fans when undervolted yield a good balance of acceptable noise level and case cooling.

Not from my experience. I've used a lot of 120mm L1A Panaflos and every one has started at 5V 100% of the time. The only Panaflos I've ever had that didn't start at 5V were a couple of 80mm L1As.

I will most likey buy panaflo fans since i alrdy have 3 80mm and i am very happy with them, maybe papst for 120 tho, who knows, maybe even the evercool

The Panaflo 120mm is 120x38mm, which is very deep and more static
pressure can involve more noise. The Papst 4412FGNL is 120x25mm,
and quite good - variable - and the NMB 4110KL-04W-B10 is very good
and more consistent than the Papst, with smoother bearings.

5V is a bit low for some fans, so case-by-case testing.

Be aware there are 2 versions of the Papst 4412:

4412FGL - no rpm monitoring

4412F/2GL with rpm monitoring

Yes, "/2" on the end of a papst designation means tacho output,
where Papst choose to make it available (production is variable).

Be aware Papst is moving under it's "real" name EBM, or EBM-PAPST
depending on what locale you are in. Papst isn't a sub-division, but
it was used as a segment name for the smaller fans (v 400mm EBM).
Shouldn't affect searches or component nomenclature for a while.
