I just got 2 120mm Nexus Real Silent fans, and, i have got to say, that they live up to their name. They are extremely quiet, and I would have to say that the only close competitor for this fan is the Antec Stock fan that is bundled with the SLK3700BQE/Sonatas. It moves ~ 1 CFM less than the Antec, and runs 200RPM slower, though. However, with my watercooling solution, I am happy with both. I have the Antec as the exhaust, whilst the Nexus is the intake. Previously I had a Papst 4412FGL, and, @ 12V, that thing was roaring as it was furiously sucking in air through the front vents. Even at it's lowest voltage, it was still creating noise. With the Nexus, you can only hear a slight woosh of the air flowing in.

So point in fact - The Nexus Real Silent Fans are truely quiet fans, that match up with the Antec stock fans, but are quieter, emitting only a low hum.

Ok, now try running them @ 6 volts.....

Have you tried the Papst @ 5V, because it is very very quiet in my setup.

SilenX 350W PSU, you can't read the rpm, but my guess is around 800-1000rpm

The case is the Antec Sonata.

at lower voltages, the hum becomes less faint. But even @ 12V, the hum is very faint, and low frequency, which makes it hard to notice. So I am fine with it running @ 12V

Nexus fans come with 3 wire fan connector right?? How well do they work with speedfan? Any wierd noises?

Will they spin up @ 5v? Any clicking at 5/7v?

Is there any other fan to look at? I'll never need more than 40cfm and while idle need almost no airflow. (unplugged fans it takes 40 minutes to raise cpu temp 2-3C while oced.. now that 8rdavcore is lowering the clock it'll take even long) .... have 2 rads each with a 120mm fan.

Nexus in a seasonic powersupply hooked up to its fan controller... its pulling in mostly cool air, cpu's heat is moved elsewhere, gfx card puts out a little i guess.... sound like an okay plan?

i have heard absolutely ZERO clicking / weird noises. Like I said, all I hear is a very low hum.

I am not sure about which Seasonic PSU you're talking about, I would guess the super tornado, since i was mentioning the 120mm version. I am not sure if they spin up @ 5/7 V, since I do not have a multimeter to measure the voltage. I also use my Vantec Nexus fan controller, and I dont use speedfan, so I wouldn't be able to answer you there. I can try later on when I have time, though. Reply to the post to remind me ~.~

Oh I'm just gonna risk it, At 12v its bout the same as my current fans at 5v so worst case I end up where I started... cept my fans will be orange.. guess that could come in handy one day, not sure how tho hehe. Also it'll hvae rpm wire which I for some reason think I need. Thx

The ones I have have a 4 pin molex with an additional three pin wire which as an RPM monitor (don't think the 3 pin is powered). At 12v they spin at about 1400rpm.

They don't start up at 5v. Even if you twirl your finger they won't get started. I'd be surprised if you need to run them at that speed though. At 12v they're barely noticeable.

They're very different beasts to normal 120mm fans eg. the Antec stock case fan or the Pabst 4412FGL, which have to be undervolted to say 7v to run quietly. The Nexus fans are geared to run quietly at 12v without undervolting. In that respect, they're a bit like the Acoustifans. The main disadvantage is that they don't push alot of air. Undervolting them will just reduce the airflow which is low enough already.

The Antec stock fan, in my belief, is relatively quiet at 12v. Both fans, the Antec 3700BQE/Sonata stock and the Real Silent operate at similar performance specs, just to point out.

Unplug it from the 'fan only' connector and plug it into a normal molex. You might change your mind

it IS running @ 12V, I do not have any fan only connectors. You're thinking of the Sonatas, which run the fans @ 5V. I'm running from a fan controller by vantec, which can go from 0V to 12V.

I have yet to hear a Seasonic Super Tornado personally, but I hear they're very quiet as it is. I suggest you save your money until you checkout the SST at stock before modding it with a Nexus.

A friend of mine just ordered one so I should be able to give you a better answer later on. FYI I'm running a Vantec ZM400A-APF and I have zero reason to get anything else right now (though depending on how the quiet my friends Seasonic SST turns out I may get on just for its far superior airflow over my Vantec.

That's odd. If I run my Antec case fan at 12v (from the default 5v of the 'fan only' connector) - it's really loud, although it pushes alot of air.
