speedfan control of mobos -- suggestions?

Post by dasman » Mon Jun 28, 2004 2:45 pm

I have an Asus P4t533-c that fried a few weeks back and I'm finally looking to replace it. However, I want to be able to control all of the fan headers using speedfan (the asus controlled the CPU/PSU off of a single setting and wouldn't control the chassis at all).

Any firsthand suggestions? Prefer i865 or i875 chipsets.

Thanks,

Dave

I would recommend an AOpen AX4SPE Max II, which is based on the i865PE chipset. I don't know about speedfan support (it most likely is compatible), but it has some good features. However, are you sure that you don't want wait? The latest Intel chipsets were just released and support the new LGA775 socket and PCI Express. The only downside is that the new boards (And chips, and graphics cards  ) are rather expensive.

The Abit IC7 series lets Speedfan control at least the CPU and NB fan headers. Another header (Sysfan1?) reads RPM, but I don't know if Speedfan can adjust it.

I don't want to wait because this is supposed to be my HTPC machine and the mobo is fried. I have all the parts I need (CPU/RAM/Video/HD/burner), now I just need a replacement mobo...

Thanks for the suggestions guys -- keep'm coming...

On the speedfan homepage, there is information regarding supported chipsets and motherboards. Users can also post their findings. Here's the link.

I browsed it briefly and did not see any 865PE motherboards that will give you case fan speed control, however.

Bomba -- yeah, I already checked that out. Actually, it doesn't give much info at all. Like, the Asus P4T533-C is listed as supported -- but it doesn't tell you that only the CPU/PSU headers are supported and that they are linked to the same speed.

That's why I was hoping for some first hand feedback

Thanks,

Dave

Then I should confirm that the IC7s do the CPU and NB independently.

Now that I'm finally ready to order, just crossed my mind -- I assume I can pop off the active NB cooler and go passive -- leaving the NB header to control the chassis fan?

Or will the IC7 cause problems running passively?
