Nexus Fans the same as Vantec?

Post by souljas » Sun Jan 02, 2005 7:28 am

Hi ppl, ive been looking for ways to silent my PC and stumbled across this great site :) . Anyways I have been looking at some old threads and many people have rated Nexus as a good fan make to have (mostly Americans). I live in the UK and was searching to buy some Nexus fans (without too much luck), however I came across a Vantec Fan Controller which had in its description: "Vantec Nexus" , I was jut wondering if anyone knew if Nexus and Vantec are the same company?

Cheers

Hi souljas. I'm pretty sure Vantec and Nexus are not the same company (the Ventec Nexus fan controller just happens to be a vantec product, nothing to do with nexus the company). The fans produced by Nexus and Vantec are a world apart - the good old vantec 'stealth' fans are far from stealthy when compared to nexus models!

If you are after nexus fans I've got them before from:
http://www.kustompcs.co.uk
http://www.koolnquiet.co.uk
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/home.html
kool n quiet have all three models avaliable, kustom and novatech just have th 80mm and 120mm models

Oh, and before I forget...

WELCOME TO SPCR!!!

Nope, no relation.

Vantec has a line of supposedly quiet fans under the "Stealth" series. STAY AWAY FROM THEM !!! They're anything BUT stealthy.

The Nexus fan controller is a nice controller that'll do the job. Not super, not bad either.

The Nexus company is actually Nexustek and is a dutch company. The online retailer that usually has a wide range of Nexus hardware available in the UK is Kustom PCs. There are others in the UK but they seem to be perpetually out of stock.

Other than that, you can go to the dutch online site http://www.silentpcshop.nl

The original site for Nexustek is http://www.nexustek.nl/hq

souljas - If you take anything away from this post, make it this:

hi, thanks!

Once I get a bit of excess money together, im gonna try to get :

1. Antec Sonata Piano Black
2. With The AcoustiPack Pre-cut Kit
3. 2 Nexus 120 mm fans
4. Vantec Fan Controller
5. Antec Phantom 350W Fanless PSU

-Could anyone comment on this setup, will it be good/bad/better options?
-Also I have an AMD 64 3000+ (Newcastle -745pin), just wondering if anyone could suggest a more quiet Heatsink/fan - on an Asus K8VSE Deluxe?

Well if you read some of the posts on this site you will find that the Sonata is not generally recommended due to the lacking airflow capabilities at the front. Antec slk3700amb or 3000B have more or less the same design, but have better airflow and are a it higher. Might want to check those out. They are pretty boring though.. i have the slk3700.

You might want to consider thinking twice about that Vantec Nexus, especially if it's the NXP-201 (the 4-channel 5.25" version), because I got one that BUZZED (it's a PWM-based unit) and annoyed the living daylights when the fans were turned down, defeating the purpose of the unit altogether. Vantec said that the newer NXP-201s don't buzz, but I'd be a little wary.
I couldn't take the buzzing anymore and got a Zalman MFC-1 (4-channel voltage regulated + two 5/12v switches) and I'm very happy with it. Anyways, good luck with your silencing project :-)

thanks, Ive had a closer look around for more quiet cases, and I like the soundproofing features on the Nexus Breeze case, and the AcoustiCase C6607B. Looking at them the AcoustiCase looks very ugly next to the Nexus Breeze! Is there a big difference in these 2 cases, or are they on a par?
