Silly fan question.

I have a vantec stealth 80mm fan i've strapped at back of case. Due to low airflow I can't really tell which way it's blowing. I've got the label side on the inside of the case.

Is that right for it to suck air out?

Normally, the label should watch the outside, if you want it to extract the hot air.

damn. no wonder the lower front (w/o fan) is hot to the touch against case and why the hd was heating up. i was pulling in air for 3 months and the cpu fan + video card fan was trapping air there!

Hi rei !

Just in case you buy fans in the future, the standard is that the the air travels from the part of the fan where there is no sticker and no fixations for the central motor to the part which has the fixations and the sticker.

In case of doubt, you can watch the sides of the fan ; there are often 2 arrows ; one of them shows the direction of the fan's rotation, and the other shows the direction of the airflow.

actually my vantecs have stickers on both sides
one side has a wire leading into though and that seems to be the one the air goes out

hope i haven't harmed things too much by trapping all that hot air (side of case at front was hot ) for 3 months :/

On the side of many fans you will often see 2 small arrows marked into the plastic. One indicates rotation, the other air flow direction.
Yours may well be exeptions!

Better for advertising. The sticker that doesn't spin is on the out side.
