yes, it is possible for fan manufactures to fudge specification numbers they list. In fact, I would say 90% of all fans out there have fudged specs.

But to the extent of it being 14 db at 50 or so CFM that's just rediculous. Might buy one thou LOL.

An US lawsuit could improve the accuracy of the specifications...

It is 14dba measured in the adjecent room. My old papst 120mm ran at 1600rpm max, at which speed the noise was unacceptable. This silenx fan at 1800 RPM no matter how good, (and it apparantly is not) would make more sound than unacceptable, which is more likely to be 34dba than 14.

Please don't buy products that are marketed by false claims. You just encourage them to keep it that way.

Well, you have to back it up with more than that, rpms alone doesn't decide the noise. I guess if they have a bad rep, sceptisism is justified, but that argument alone is hardly enough too show that it's clearly wrong IMHO.

Wasn't really gonna buy it. It's just that some people out there will get fooled by the specs they have given.

The thing is though, even with the best motor and bearings, there is just no way that a 1800rpm fan can be considered 'acceptable' to 95% of this forum. No matter what the actual sound level is.

Fans are fans, its not rocket science. If a papst (pretty decent fan) is unbearable at 1600 rpm, there is no way that any fan at 1800rpm will be near silent. At best it would probably be as loud as the papst, with good motor and bearings making up for the 200rpm.

IMO, once you hear a clear 'wind woosh', motors and bearings become less important. With 120mm fans, I get annoyed by the 'wind' far below 1000rpm.

I have a silentX PSU 300W with 80mm fan in it. It is quiet and whilst the rest of my system is running (Quiet but not by your standards) i need to put my ear to it to hear it over the case fan

Silenx fans are not that bad -
but they are just other brands rebadged.
Silenx is not a favourite on these forums because they have a history of deceit and their product specs are dubious at best.
if you search the forums with the search engine you will find out about their CEO's misbehavior . He used to be registered on this forum (multiple times !)
People here do not like to be conned !
That said they are far from the worst fan - just a dodgy company

I have a few. They fail to mention it's 14dB or 58CFM :D
Seriously when undervolted they are extremely quiet but by default they are only relatively quiet and not remotely 14dB. It's still a good fan but their claims are absurd.
