Laptop fan

Post by ceraf » Tue Apr 10, 2007 8:21 am

I have a very noisy fan in my Toshiba Portege 3500. I've tried cleaning out the dust from the heatsink/fan area, but it still makes those rattling noises.

Could my fan need more bearing lubricant, or is there any other solution?

Oh yeah, just to note...the fan doesn't have a visible bearing opening, and I haven't gathered enough courage to disassemble it since it costs more than $50 to replace.

Hmm,, this is why i like my iBook. No fans, just a damn whiny hdd. Which I'll replace soon. The bearing opening is likely under the fan label; are you confident enough to disassemble the laptop enough to get at the fan?

Yup...I've opened it to clean the dust out, but that's all i've done.
