Silent 4 pin PWM fan to replace Scythe Ninja fan required

Hi there,

I'm building a new rig at the weekend with a motherboard with a 4 pin CPU fan header. I'm trying to find a suitable replacement 120mm fan for my trusty original spec Scythe Ninja to go in the new rig that'll push about the same amount of air as the stock fan and be at least as quiet.

If I use the stock 3 pin fan on my new motherboard I've read that I'll lose BIOS speed control of it and I want to keep that.

Do you guys have any recommendations as to what to buy?

I have a Scythe KAMA PWM and I keep it at ~700 RPM with SpeedFan. I don't hear nothing from closed case.

Nexus 120mm PMW = 2000RPM max
Scythe 120mm PWM = 1200RPM max
minimum RPMs scale from the max.
Pretty easy choice there.

There is also the Arctic Cooling PWM fan which has a maximum RPM of 1500.

Obviously YMMV but my board (Gigabyte P35-DS3L) controls the stock 3-pin fan from BIOS with no problems. What board do you have?

It's highly case by case in all mainboard manufacturers. Some boards would lose fan control when installing a 3-pin cpu fan, having to put up with only PWM fans. It depends on individual boards' ability of controlling fans especially in cpu fan header.

Hi, I have Arctic Cooling 120m PWM fan on my CPU and get a (reported)range of 394 -> 1406rpm on Asus P5B-E plus. (Paper ducted onto a BTF-90 "butterfly")
I'm happy with the fans noise signature, below 700-800 it drops out of hearing range and I'm not aware of any untoward bearing or other noise.
