Slipstream 800 vs Nexus 1000

I've read people who swear by the Slipstream 800 and say it moves more air than comparable speed fans of other designs, and according to the specs it does, but...I'm not convinced. By both the hand-in-the-exhaust and the coretemp-in-prime95 tests it moves less air than a Nexus at 1000 rpm. The latter test by about 3 degrees C.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

The Slipstream is definitely quieter, but I plan to re-compare when I get in a 12-to-9v adapter for the Nexus. I'm thinking at similar RPM they'll be closer in comparison in both airflow and noise.

800 v 1000 isn't really comparable rpm, so no surprise the Nexus wins with that comparison.

Yep, I think that's what you'll find.

According to the airflow specs and from people saying it moved more air than other 800 RPM fans I thought it would be a good comparison.

I'm re-running the test today and the difference is about 5 degrees C.

Have you tried mouting both on a heatsink vs as case fans? Perhaps static pressure plays a role.

Is this system temp or CPU temp?

It wouldn't be surprising that CPU HSF temps wouldn't favor the SlipStream. The pitch of the blades is more favorable to free-air or intake/exhaust applications. With restrictive airpaths, RPM is king.

The application is as an exhaust fan in a Sonata 1 case, close to a fanless Ninja. The temperature I'm measuring is core temp.

Hello,

I think your results are right in line with SPCR's review of the Copper Ninja:

The noise is nearly the same with the Nexus at 7v and the Slipstream 800RPM at 12v ( :o ) and the temps at those speeds are 1C in favor of the Slipstream 800RPM.
