S-flex - which speed (for TR ultima 90i)

Post by asafnn » Sat May 31, 2008 4:47 pm

hi all
a quick question, moments away from buying a computer
I'm using the TR ultima 90I (on a Q9450). There are no slipstreams in this neck of the woods so I'm going with S-flex.

I wanted to ask: Should I take 800 or 1200 rpm?
And if I take the faster one can I control it via software to slow down to 800 and then back to 1200 (I'll be plugging it into the CPU fan header of a EP35C-DS3R)

I'm sorry if these are dumb questions and I would've research myself if there wasn't a limited time issue.

thanks

I have the exact same heatsink and using an S-Flex 1200 cooling an e6600.

The S-Flex 1200 is very quiet @ stock. And if you have the option to bump it down to 800RPM, even better.

If you get the 800RPM, and for some reason you are uncomfortable with the temps - no way to raise RPM, right?

Right now, its 59F (15C) here in Northern California and my Everest reports my e6600 @ 20F.

I have a 120mm Slipstream as an exhuast running @ 1200RPM as well. Very quiet as well (though still a bit audible from above my desk).

Get the 1200 S-Flex. :)

My 1200 S-Flex runs at speeds of between 395 and 1064 RPM, under control of the BIOS, cooling my E6750 and TRUE. I haven't got access to periodic measurements of the ambient temperature here in Amsterdam, but during a week of mildly warm weather, somewhere around 20c, the highest recorded RPM was 1064, while folding, and the highest core temp was 52c. That was before I overrode the BIOS Vcore management and reduced it by 0.0625v. It is now folding at 778, and Core temp 36 and 37 with the central heating on but the windows half open. Oh, and the 6750 is running at 3.2Ghz. So I think the S-Flex will give you the airflow you want, providing you can get enough of the air to flow over the Ultima 90.

thanks, both of you.
I'll go with the 1200, and then we'll see about speeds and temps.
it gets to 40c here in the summer, I think I might need it

I bought 1600RPM Scythe's so in the summer i can ramp up the speed. I have a scythe fan controller so I usually have them around 1000RPM. They are pretty silent at that speed. Best thing to do is get a high speed fan and get a fan controller.
