Need help choosing S-FLEX fans for my P182

Post by LM10 » Fri May 28, 2010 6:08 pm

Hello.

I'm building a new computer and my primary goal is to make it quiet as much as i can.

It will be:

P182
AMD PHENOM II 965
MUGEN 2
GA-770TA-UD3
KINGSTON 4GB
SAMSUNG F3
HD 5850
SEASONIC S12II-620W

Many people suggest to replace the trilcool fans with S-FLEX.

The problem for me is that i dont know what model of S-FLEX fan to get and how many.
I have no interest in overcloking and the noise is very important to me - so it will be fine to take three S-FLEX 800RPM? or is it not enough for cooling the system? if so, what exactly should i take?

Thanks alot!

I recommend that you get the 1200rpm versions and run them at a lower rpm.
There is more control with the higher rpm versions (in fact the 2000rpm versions is more controllable but noisier).
Running the 1200rpm version at 600rpm is easier (guaranteed to start etc) then running the 800rpm version at 600rpm.

This topic has been on SPCR before so there will be some old forum threads if you want to search.

I only have 1 active fan now in my P182 (the back one) but I only have an AMD 4850e / Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H combination.
If you need to run the top fan, then make sure you noise insulate the triangular top flap so that all the air/noise goes backwards out of the vent.

Agreed. Get the 1200RPM or 1500RPM ones and run them slower by the method of your choice (I recommend automatic control by the motherboard).

Thank you both for your answers.

I just would like to know something - what is the noise level of three S-FLEX 1200RPM fans running at full speed? is it equal the three TriCool fans at what speed (slow, medium, high)?

As best I can remember, Scythe FDB fans are quieter than Antec P182 fans at any setting of either.
