What does everyone think of this? Potential or no?

Just looking at the pics on google, I'd say about 1/4 to 1/3 of the airflow is blocked by those plastic grills on the fan (that also make a fan noisier).

Without some form of measurable test, my opinion is up in the air.

Get one of these to Mike, stat!

yeah.... the smoke video seems to indicate that the new fan has a much more tightly controlled flow angle, which could well compensate for any loss in total flow caused by the grill.

Interesting, looks like an effective intake/heatsink fan. Those grills seem to be an integral part of the design, I wonder how they affect noise levels though.

I actually ordered one from Frozen CPU a few days ago.

Though I don't have any measuring equipment I have the means to subjectively judge the fan (Open air and behind the dust filter of my P183) at 12v, 7v, and 5v and see how it sounds at those levels.

I'll let you guys know once I have the fan.

I think these definitely have potential. Its an interesting idea... they might make good radiator fans! :)

Performs well

I've put a couple of these in my SG03 that houses an Asus Rampage II GENE motherboard. They perform pretty well--especially given their speed/noise level. I've tried quite a few fans in this case; and the AP121s do a better job of cooling my north bridge that some fans that were spec'd to move twice as much air.

On the other hand, I'm not seeing an across-the-board drop in temperatures for all components. To get that, I need to move more air through the case than the AP121 pulls in. But since my north bridge is my primary heat problem, I'm pretty satisfied.

It has been a while since anyone posted in this thread, is that because nobody else got these to test or because they were deemed not good enough and I just haven't found that information so far?
They look promising for a radiator application but are a bit expensive for me to experiment with, hence the research I'm doing now.

Good fan reviews are always hard to find, however, there is a comparison with other popular fans done by Matrinm210, who has a solid reputation:

You have to watch the video (watch a high res, larger version than the embedded one) to see the results, and there is no graph (although all the data is there). Based on the video, I'll stick with my Gentle Typhoons.
