Anyone used one, or any other PCI slot fan (either intake or exhaust?)
Any comments on noise level and practicality (ie how much did case temps drop?) I have a passive 8600GT which is cooled by a 800rpm SFlex blowing up at it, am getting a bit itchy to try this...

i once tried a bs-06 in my solo and the temps actually went up! didn't work at all in my setup.

If you use the BS-06 in conjunction with open/vented PCI slot covers, I see a real chance of the BS-06 sucking the hot air it exhaust right back in again.sanse wrote:i once tried a bs-06 in my solo and the temps actually went up! didn't work at all in my setup.
How was the airflow (also in relation to noise)? I always wonder how well it can work, seeing that for the most part the fan is just blowing up against an aluminum panel, creating a lot of backpressure along the way.

the setup was silent with lower fan-speeds, but totally ineffective, because of what you mention: the fan just blows against it's alu-case. it simply does nothing. probably only disturbing the airflow in the solo from front to back and thereby creating higher temps.tim851 wrote:If you use the BS-06 in conjunction with open/vented PCI slot covers, I see a real chance of the BS-06 sucking the hot air it exhaust right back in again.sanse wrote:i once tried a bs-06 in my solo and the temps actually went up! didn't work at all in my setup.

a silly very good looking gadget.
btw, i also tried it with a reversed fan blowing cool air into the case. same result. because of it's narrow housing the fan does nothing. same when spinning it in open air, while holding it in your hand.

Taping an 80/92mm fan to the PCI slots would do the same thing at a cheaper price, as long as you have 4-5 expansion slots to spare.
I tried this using a 120mm fan: Twist ties, duct tape, blu-tack, and chunk of beer carton
An 80/92mm fan would fit into the little area where the expansion slots are, making it easier to mount.
