120mm fan with 4-pin connector for CPU PWM control?

Post by gourdo_1 » Sun Oct 23, 2011 8:16 pm

Hi, I'm looking for a standard 120mm case fan that has 4-pins to plug into the CPU header on my MSI motherboard so I can reduce it's speed via the board's built-in Intel PWM controller. The 3-pin 120mm fan I currently have works fine on the other 3-pin headers, but won't listen to the PWM signal on the 4-pin CPU header. Any reasonably priced, quiet options out there? I have a massive Megahalems CPU cooler, so don't need a super high CFM fan here, just something that will be quiet at 50% load (when idle).

Thanks,
Gordo

Here some options depending on your budget,

Scythe Slip Stream 120mm x 25mm PWM Mid Speed Fan - (SY1225SL12LM-P) (200-1300rpm)
Scythe Kama Flex 120mm x 25mm PWM Fan w/ S-Fluid Dynamic Bearings (SA1225FDB12H-P) (300-1600rpm)
Noiseblocker NB-BlackSilentPro PLPS 120mm x 25mm Ultra Quiet PWM Fan (600-1500rpm)
Noiseblocker NB-Multiframe M12-PS 120mmx25mm Super Ultra Silent PWM Fan (600-1500rpm)

I would try the slipstream first, on the mugen 3 its very quiet below 500rpm, and you can crack it up if you need it.

Awesome, thanks! Bought me a slipstream. We'll see how it goes...

Another one is Arctic Cooling F12 PWM. Quiet at low speeds.

One to avoid is Nexus PWM, noisy at all speeds. (Opposite of its 3-pin brother)
