As in subject, albeit I think recently some our co-forumers already noted that (ATM I don't recall who and in which threads, sorry).

At any rate, I've asked Phanteks where to find in EU some of these fans, sadly they told me they were discontinued, and that even their newly produced heatsinks will be shipped with the (noticeably inferior sounding) PH-F140HP-II.

They are still in stock on caseking.de for 15 €.
It won't help you, but I've asked my local reseller where I've got my Phanteks case, and he can still order them from his provider.
So maybe you should insist, or just order from caseking. The downside is their delivery rate is pretty high, at least to France.

Thanks for the heads up, but apparently those are HP-II actually.

I bought the original PH-F140HP from Amazon.ca a few months back, maybe something changed in their manufacturing, but the acoustics weren't great to me. I had about 5 samples and they all sounded similar, so that didn't help. The HP II were even worse though, and sound completely different than the original HP, but surprisingly the XP fans sounded pretty good to me, though I still have to see how much airflow they put out at the 700-900RPM range I like to run them at.

These Phanteks fans can't reach as low RPMs as Noctuas and stuff, so keep that in mind

That one, or maybe the Noctua P14s, or even the more expensive Fractal Design Venturi HP-14 (prolly I like the TY the most).

These days I am comparing those XPs with the original white and blue HP, and I confirm your initial feeling: though they don't go as low as some Noctuas or TR (~560rpm, so the relevant SPL isn't abysmal), they seemingly sound rather good, I'd dare to say pretty close to the original TS/HP.

It ended that my reseller actually ordered HP II, so I didn't take them...

Luca, does the XP make you such a good feeling that you would recommend it over the TY-147A ?

It depends.

If your system may run with fans at 300rpm, then no, I'd not recommend the Phanteks: the TR is noticeably quieter under about 500rpm (where the XP/MP can't go).

Otherwise, your mileage may vary (usually the TR is significantly cheaper).

Check the measures, at any rate: the frame is not case friendly.

Well, looking at the specs, it looks like there are not exactly the same fan with square frame, especially for the TY-141sq which has definitely different specs (rpm range, noise and linear flow) than the TY-141...

By the way, mindfactory.de seems to have still Phanteks XP in stock and HP in disponibility.

I meant the TR FAQ 1 which I already linked: the frame is asymmetrical, it's 152x140mm (and not 140x140mm), so just check your own clearance against these measures.

Those latter are not the original PH-F140HP: from their EAN code and model number they are clearly the PH-F140HP-II.

As said just above, whether you plan to run the fans above about 500rpm, then the Phanteks UFB may have a pleasant sound (it's a subjective assessment), so YMMV. Whether your thermals let you to dial the fans lower than about 500rpm, then there's virtually no match, because Noctua or TR fans would be noticeably less obtrusive at the least demanding loads.

Yes, it is indeed the mark II version of the PH-F140HP. Phanteks didn't mark it as such, which only added to the doubts about its identity in this particular review but the speed testing results are conclusive. Regardless of the markings on the fan the retail box does have 'PH-F140HP II' and 'Max 1600 rpm' on it so there should be no doubt there. But unless you really want a fan idling at speeds getting on for 600 rpm I can't particularly see as has already been said why you would want one of these over a Thermalright TY-147A or a Noctua NF-A15.
