Good HS/HSF
1 started this thread a while back, voicing my concerns over my CPU idle/load temperatures.
I have decided that i want to invest in a new HS/HSF and am wondering what people would recommend. I have an Athlon XP 2400+ (Socket A) and i would prefer the fan not to sound like a jet engine taking off !!!
Maybe one with a fan controller?
Cheers
D.L
PS. One slight problem i have. if i am reading the the Zalman website correct, some of the most recommended HS/HSF arent compatible with my motherboard!
example: zalman CNPS7000A/B
http://www.zalman.co.kr/product/cooler/ ... st_eng.htm
I have a MSI KT6V mobo ....this is making the choice harder

dam SI-97 is the thing that everyone talks about...
but daing it's expensive , 65 $ can over here , and plus you got to get a fan whit that , like 20 $ more... ; me too i have some temp problems , but it's just cuz i g2g clean my HS , but not now , im going to get XP-M 2500+ and overclock it , but i need a @#$%ing HS for it see , and i don't have 100 $ for it see, thats why im up at 1 am looking for a HS that isn't noisy and isn't expensive and has good CFM and all see........ ok........

Well, since I have the same CPU as dAvies.lOcker and my MB also isn't compatible with the Zalman 7000, instead of making a new thread I'll post in this one.
I can't find the SI-97 here, so I'm deciding between the Thermalright ALX-800, Noiseblocker BadBoy, and Aerocool HT-101 and DP-102. Either one are to be fitted with a Noiseblocker S1 80mm fan (11dBA, 22CFM). Can you help me choose one?

I have a Aerocool AeroPower B/S 450W (two 80mm fans) and a Antec SLK3000B with a 120mm exhaust fan. Could I run the DP-102 or HT-101 without a fan just with the SLK3000B's duct? --> Either way, with a 11dBA fan I'm not really going to hear itTibors wrote:Don't know about what exhaust fan(s) or PSU you have, but with the Aerocool coolers you could try ducting to either one. Then you don't need a fan on the HS.
EDIT
Well, I got it for free so I guess I can't complainniels007 wrote:Just a note: Avoid the Noiseblocker fans.. They are better than average but are prone to high frequency whining which is very annoying. Nexus, Papst, Panaflo.. those are the better alternatives..

The intake duct is for use in combination with a "traditional" heatsink, with the fan parallel to the mobo. Tower type heatsinks don't work well with side panel intake ducts. They try to occupy the same space, but are meant for different airflow directions.
P.S. Don't believe marketing bullshit dB(A) numbers like 11dB(A) for a fan that moves any usefull amount of air.

OK, I should have said cools well for the job. I use it to cool a 70W Palomino. Actually I use the fan at 3V now, not 5V, and temps max out at 53C folding. He'll be cooling a 2400+ probably a T-Bred core that's about as hot but with a larger surface area. So he should be alright.rpsgc wrote:burcakb wrote:Falconrock II with a 5V medium Yate Loon on top.
