Zalman NB47 Mutilation to fit DFI nForce4 MB?

Post by Rizban » Mon Feb 07, 2005 7:45 pm

Is there any reasonable way to mutliate the Zalman NB47 chipset cooler (or some other passive solution) to fit DFI's new nForce4 motherboard?
A link to the unfortunate chipset arrangement is here:

I'd prefer the DFI board to the other nForce4 contenders so far, but I doubt I could live with the chipset fan noise.
Is there any hope?

I was thinking the same thing but surely its possible to control the voltage going to the fan on the cooler :?:

V3N,
I agree, it should be possible to slow the fan down as long at the fan can tolerate undervolting. Seems like these fans are allowed to spin extra fast for no real reason. I hear the Maglev fan is very quiet and should be even quieter when running slower.

I hope you're right. I'll look forward to hearing how it goes when you build your system.
Good luck.

Hmmm, I just posted this in another thread, but I think it's more appropriate in this one (and it'll bump it up nicely).

Is there any reason why we can't just put our video card in the lower of teh two PCIe x16 slots? Is it right in saying that you can configure the slots to have 8 lanes each? Perhaps you can even have all 16 on the lower slot. I'm trying to download the manual but the DFI website has just gone down for me.

I really hope it's not a case of a fixed x16 slot and something like a x2 slot for the seccond one.

I've answered a few of these questions in another thread

Overall, mangling a Zalman works for me so far.
