Antec P180 in UK (pre-order)

Post by ecsdude » Mon Apr 18, 2005 11:06 am

If you're in the UK, it looks like this place is taking pre-orders for the Antec P180: http://www.gladiatorcomputers.com/acata ... Cases.html

Looks like they're asking for what converts to $178.66 USD for it, so I'm guessing it'll cost Americans around that when it's available in the USA.

that would be a heck of a rip off for a case without a power supply and that isnt made out of aluminum.

I think they are jacking you buddy on its rarity. Someone will cut that price up when it comes out.

The UK usually pays more for Antec cases, so I expect the street price to be about $150.00.

Not only is it made from aluminum, it is made using a “sandwich” aluminum with an noise quieting insulation layer in between the aluminum layers (IIRC).

It must be close if they have a firm price.

The side panels are layered aluminum-plastic-aluminum.

As for the price, I actually think that is a good deal for the UK. I am expecting the price to be $160-$180 in the US once it is finally released. It will be more than the P160, and the P160's MSRP is $169 though you can find it for much less online.

So Antec won't make these with powersupplies? that seems kinda weird since it is a quiet case. I can't believe Antecs Sales and Marketing would allow the loss in the Market Share. Antec "was" the best powersupply company for a long time. I still love the two that I own.

like many high end cases it doesn't come with a powersupply to give people the choice.

some may have a sli setup needing some 600watt monster, whereaas I've already got a fanless antec phantom that i'll put in a p180, once the good reviews are in. I'd prefer not to pay extra for something that i won't need.

Why do they use alumnium anyway? An expensive and light material hardly seems like the best choise for noise reduction.

The exterior panels are brushed aluminum for looks, but each panel is actually a layer of sound absorbing material in-between two layers of aluminum for quietness. The interior metal is steel.

Yeah, but wouldn't it be more effevtive (and cheaper) if both the panel layers where steel?

Not everyone who buys these is interested in quiet computing. There are a lot of gamers and high power fanatics out there who want the look of brushed aluminum.

In fact, I would guess that people interested in quiet computing are in the distinct minority of custom PC builders, although we are gaining on the others.

this was already posted on the 1st april in the thread about the new antec cases which of course quickly became the "Oh god <3 the p180 when the hell is it gonna be available" thread :)

I still think that to get the crazy gamers include a good quiet 500watt 24pin powersupply with the case for 200bones and they will sell to the gamers and the silenters too.

Antec could have multiple models too with and without p/s.

It seems like a very interesting case, The one thing I would like to know if having the HD in the designated space at the bottom is more quiet than having it enclosed in a 5.25 space.

Antec does not have any power supplies that would fit this qualification except maybe the new Phantom 500, and that combo would be around $400, making the bundle savings of $10-$15 somewhat small and the volume would be very low, though I might consider it myself. 8)
