slow speed fans

Post by SpaceDreamer » Tue May 17, 2005 7:25 am

Can anyone recommend me fans running at a speed lower than 1000 RPM at 12V ? Any size between 80mm and 120mm ...
I read the Sticky about recommended fans but they talk about brands, not models or speeds...

One of the coolermaster models runs < 1000 rpm.

Its pretty quiet. This may not be the best price.

Why does it have to run at 12V? Why not just undervolt to get your lower RPM? I haven't yet had a fan fail to start at 5V (a few different kinds of 80mm, and Yate Loon 120mm), and 7V ought to work if 5V is too low to get the fan started ...

Nexus fans aren't much more than 1000 IIRC

I believe that new Aerocool Turbine fan people are trying out comes in at exactly 1000 RPM.

The 120mm Globes might do the trick for you. The only problem is they vary a bit from sample to sample. About 40-50% of them run around 1010-1030rpm, and the rest generally run at about 970-980 rpm.

Depending on how many you need for your project, I'd suggest buying about twice that many, checking the rpms on them, and just trashing the ones that spin faster than 1000rpm.......

I just installed two nexus fans, they run about 1000-1100 at 12v.

I never said I'll make it run at 12V...
I'm asking about the 12V speed because that's the speed they specify, but I'm planning to run at 5V.

I hate wasting time answering posts when the poster's question does not reflect what he really wants to know.

You didnt waste any time, your answer was very useful.
My question really reflects what I want to know
because the speed of a fan at 5V is (roughly) in proportion with its speed at 12V
