samsung p80 SATA-II -- HD160JJ only 2.5 bels

Post by dan » Mon May 23, 2005 11:53 am

in addition to the p120 series, samsung is offering the p80 using the newer sata-II interface. newegg gogocity chiefvalue and several other vendors sell them. it's model HD160JJ.

samsung lists it at 2.5 bels at idle, which is significantly lower than 2.7 bels for its earlier p80, and not too far off from what it lists for its mobile notebook dual-platter, at 2.4 bels

anyone familiar or own one of these products? will spcr review this product? it's so new that newegg doesn't have any customer reviews for this product.

I wonder if the noise reduction is because they ditched JVC motors?

What makes me mad is that they may have switched the drive to the new, faster interface (SATA II), but they may not have (in fact I seriously doubt that they) made the drive itself any faster. So the switch to the new faster interface actually provides no benefit.

Or at least that's my understanding of it. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here... :?:

the p120 is also listed at 2.5 bels as its official spec. it is unclear to me what improvement(s) may have resulted in the lower bel official spec.
